Wescustogo Paddle!
We’re looking forward to a perfect spring afternoon to enjoy the beauty of the Royal River and learn some of its North Yarmouth history.
Wescustogo is a name that comes from the Wabanaki peoples, the original inhabitants of the North Yarmouth area. It’s connected to the Royal River, and the word mean “muddy” or or “gullied river,” and might refer to the mouth of the Royal. And as for the river’s English name, that comes from one of the earliest European settlers here, William Royall.
Discover/re-discover the Royal! There will be three paddle options:
- Wescustogo Park to Baston Park (3 miles) – Launch at 1:00 PM
- Baston Park to Royal River Park (5 miles) – Re-launch at 3:15 PM
- Full Route: Wescustogo Park to Royal River Park (8 miles) – 1:00 to 5:00 PM
We’ll be gathering at 2:15 at Baston Park (across from the Route 9 boat launch) for a “midway” stop—refreshments and brief remarks.
