Frances Perkins … a familiar name and a familiar face—right?

You may not know much about her, but she has made a huge impact on YOUR life and the lives of your family members, past, present and future.

Frances Perkins served as Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Secretary of Labor, the first woman to serve on a presidential cabinet. For 12 years, she helped create and shape New Deal policies that have become essential parts of American life.

Social Security … child labor laws … the minimum wage … immigration rights … all were the product of Frances Perkins’s monumental work.

But she was not a self-promoter—thus, few know her role, and others have received recognition for her accomplishments.

Frances Perkins has deep roots in Maine. Her family home in Newcastle is a National Monument, and the Frances Perkins Center works to promote her life and work.

Come see a documentary about Perkins and hear about this extraordinary woman who has affected YOUR life.

Refreshments served, donations requested.
